S1 Chapter 1: Introducing Science


Scientist: A person who studies Science


Technology: The application of scientific knowledge for purposes such as building machines and making our lives more comfortable.


Parts of Science:
  • Physics: Study of Natural Forces & Energy
  • Chemistry: Study of substances
  • Biology: Study of Living Things
  • Agriculture: Study of Farming
  • Geology: Study of the rocks and the structure of Earth
Some Famous Scientists:


1. Louise Pasteur
  • Discovered that germs cause diseases & make food go bad
  • Used vaccines for diseases like rabies & cholera
  • Kill bacteria in milk to stop it from going bad
2. Daniel Tsui Chyu
  • Won the Nobel Prize with 2 other scientist for Physics
3. Albert Einstein
  • Discovered that substances can be changed into energy, which led to the creation of Atomic Bomb & Nuclear Power Station
4. Sally Ride
  • First U.S. woman in space
  • Carried out Science experiments in space
