P3 Science Chapter 1: Diversity
# Definition of Diversity : Great variety of living & non-living things

# How we can classify them:

1) Characteristics (e.g. Size, body covering, etc)
2) Propeties

---------------------------
# Living things:

1)Animals
2)Plants
3)Fungi
4)Micro-organisms
# Non-Living things:

1)Never Alive
2)Once Alive
~Seems familiar? Lets go further into details!
------------------------------------
# Living things need :
Food - to be digested & transported to all parts of body to produce energy
Air - to undergo respiration
Water
~Use the FAW code to help you remember!
# Non-Living Things are:
1) Never Alive
  • found in ground
  • man-made

Examples:

->Plastic - Plastic bags, food wrap, furnitures

->Ceramic - vases

2)Once Alive

Examples:

*Wood - Books, Papers

*Rubber - Erasers, soles of shoes, wheels

(need additional examples)

~Remember some of the examples as questions such as "Give 2/3 examples of materials made from ____" You don't want to be caught off-guard!

----------------------------------

# Plants : Photosynthesis
Sunlight + Carbon Dioxide + Water + Chlorophyll = Glucose + Energy
~Remember this equation well!Notice that the colours are related to the terms?
---------------------------------
# Animals
*Herbivores: Plant-eaters (I'm not one)
*Carnivores:Meat-eaters(You'll be obese)
*Omnivores:Both plant & meat eaters(Hurray!!)
------------------------------------------
