P4 Chapter 3: The Water Cycle & Importance of Water @ 3:37 PM

P4 Chapter 3: The Water Cycle & Importance of Water

A. Water cycle:

1) The Sun's heat cause water from rivers, streams, ponds, lakes & seas to evaporate into WATER VAPOUR.

2) The water vapour then condenses into tiny WATER DROPLETS which gather to from clouds.

3) When the clouds become too heavy, it rains & falls back to Earth. (YaY I love rainy days cuz rainy days = cooling!)

B. Importance of Water:

Examples of uses

1) Green plants need water + carbon dioxide to make food.

2) Water animals need water, obviously.

3) At home: washing clothes, drinking, bathing

4) In farming & agriculture: hydroponics, irrgate the crops

Water Pollution

Definition: conatmaination of water sourced

Sources of Pollution:
  • Factory Waste : discharging untreated, harmful chemicals into water sources
  • Fertilisers : The rain washes off the fertilisers into water sources and algae can grow(Urgh!)
  • Pesticides : The rain washes off the Pesticidesinto water sources
  • Deforestation : It causes soil erosion, and the soil gets washed into water sources(Double Urgh!!Muddy Water)
  • Oil Spill: Layer of oil on the surface of water prevents oxygen from entering

Water Conservation

  • Water Recycling (a.k.a. NEWater...I don't like it cause it tastes weird)
  • Desalination : removing salt from seawater
  • 3Rs: reduce, reuse, recycle
